On the dark side of the club stand two meticulous producers who together comprise ÅNDfØLK, an enigmatic pair who offer their special breed of melodic techno to the culture of dance music. Adding one more to their discography, the outfit has unveiled their latest hitter, which features Deanna Leigh, ‘My Favourite Kind’, via Caramel Records. That they recreated the song 3 times before releasing it says all you need to know about their dedication to their drive for quality.

With the release, we had the opportunity to speak with them. In our interview, we learned about their intuitive approach to the production process, their current break from live performances, their plans for the summer, and more. Without further delay, here is ÅNDfØLK.

Hi ÅNDfØLK! Can you tell us about your journey as electronic producers and how you developed your unique sound?

It comes from our lifelong love of music, in particular house and techno, and wanting to contribute and transmit this love to our beloved culture!

Which comes first when you’re producing – the sound or the idea?

Generally, they work hand in hand. When you find the right sounds, the ideas appear from the cosmos!

Take us through a day in the recording studio.

Close the door, open our minds to the cosmos, and see what we receive. Channelling man!

Tell us about the chemistry you have with your fans on stage.

We’re saying no to shows at the moment, focusing on building our catalogue  – when we do go live expect something very special! Of course, if DC10 or Warung came calling tomorrow we’d maybe adjust our plan slightly!

How did the collaboration with Deanna Leigh come about?

Deanna is a dear friend of ours and a phenomenal creative and talented artist whom we first collaborated with back in 2020 on our debut release Faces. Weirdly, we wrote the lyrics and vocals to MFK nearly 3 years ago – we made 3 versions of the song before what you hear today – It’s amazing how varied the creative process can be!

What gets your creative juices flowing? What was the spark that ignited the inspiration for ‘My Favourite Kind’?

As we mentioned before we really believe in opening our minds and seeing what comes to us when in creative mode. The inspiration came from a specific place, however, songs have different meanings to everyone, therefore well some ambiguity for the listener to find their own meaning and feelings from the song.

What’s on your current playlist?

Theus Mago, Goom Gum, Butch, Artche, Daniel Avery, Boris Brejcha, Kollektiv Turmstrasse, Chris Lake, Acid Pauli, Laurent Garnier, Argy, Massano, Mochakk, Sébastien Léger, Dennis Cruz, Guy J, Manu Le Tough, DJ Koze, Beltran, Metodi Hristov, Manu Gonzalez, Oliver Koletski, Maceo Plex, Skream, Michael Bibi, Jamie Jones, ANOTR…

Break down the news for us: what can we expect from you this year? Will the mystery continue?

We have a run of releases scheduled from now until winter! As for the live show, you’ll have to wait and see 😉
